Seth Godin wrote a blog post today about action.

It reminded me that I have a blog idea called “Just Fucking Do It” which is my internal response to people who just can’t seem to ever get anything done. Anyway…

More important than the output, though, is the act itself. The act of doing it every day. When you commit to a practice, you will certainly have days when you don’t feel like it, when you believe it’s not your best work, when the muse deserts you. But, when you keep your commitment, the muse returns. When you keep your commitment, the work happens.

Oy. Way to hit me in the feels, Seth.

You see, I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about what I want to do with my life. I have always wanted to be an author. I like writing a lot. Well, I take that back. I like having written. Writing itself can be difficult, but I feel so good after I have written something. I would love to feel that good every day.

The problem is the stuff I know how to talk about is management, which isn’t the most exciting topic. And the kind of writing I like to do (try to do, anyway) is exactly the opposite of boring. I have yet to find my voice – sharing helpful information in a way that is uniquely me. When you work in a professional world where they make you where work pants (side note: is there anything worse than profesional slacks? No.) it’s hard to speak up and say things like “just fucking do it.” People in my world don’t cuss in public and they don’t know what “hit me in the feels” means, because they are not a 13 year old boy on reddit. I’ve been thinking a lot about all of this stuff – how to write more, how to be me in a world that makes that difficult, how to find my voice…

and then I read a blog about just fucking getting to it.

So, I decided, just now, that I am going to challenge myself to write something and post it here every single day for the month of October. And I’m posting it before I can take it back.

In that spirit, I am also totally going to put a curse word in my blog title. Take that, The Man!

Wish me luck.
